Course details

The Department of Romance Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava together with Alliance française Ostrava and Gallica, the Association of Teachers of French, organizes a four-day translation workshop Tradition and literature. The workshop is targeted at Czech university students of French and students with French as their mother tongue speaking Czech who already have some experience in translating and would like to deepen their skills and knowledge under the supervision of renowned translators. Another aim is to create a broad dialogue about the quality of translation between Czech and French, and about its perspectives. The workshop, divided into 5 blocks lasting 90 minutes, focuses on contemporary literature confronted with tradition. The expected number of 50 participants shall be split in four working groups translating into Czech, fiction (2 groups), drama, non-fiction texts on literature, and one group translating into French. The workshops shall be accompanied by lectures, a debate with the representatives of the Prague Writers’ Festival and of the literarni.cz portal, film projections, a meeting with a French writer, author reading, an outing and a happening.
