PETRA-E Network Open Conference 2024

Confluences: Literary Translation in the Digital Age
West University of Timișoara, Romania
30-31 May, 2024

The PETRA-E Network is delighted to announce a call for papers for its second open conference on literary translation.

Confluences: Literary Translation in the Digital Age aims to take the pulse of literary
translation today, in theory and practice. In particular, it will focus on the challenges
and opportunities presented to literary translation by recent digital developments,
especially from a pedagogical perspective.

The conference celebrates PETRA-E’s 10th anniversary with a call to academics and
translators eager to share their perspective on literary translation. We are inviting
PETRA-E Network members and non-members to be part of a creative gathering of
approaches, from traditional ones to those anchored in the digital age, aiming for a
rich and strong confluence of ideas to forge the future of researching, teaching, and
doing literary translation.
This will be a hybrid conference, and papers may be read in person or online.

Host keynote speaker: Dana Crăciun, “The life and opinions of a literary translator”.

Proposals are particularly welcome on all aspects of the PETRA-E Framework of Reference for the Education and Training of Literary Translators, to be included in the panel devoted to the Framework itself, an updated version of which will be launched at the conference.
Proposals from early career researchers are encouraged, and discounted conference registration will be available to postgraduate participants as well as to scholars affiliated to PETRA-E Network member institutions.

Registration fee:
Full fee (in-person): EUR 110
Discounted rate (in-person): EUR 75 (postgraduate students, presenters affiliated to Network member institutions)
Online participation only: EUR 40

Please send abstracts (300 words) to info@petra-e.eu by 15 February 2024. Accepted papers will be confirmed by 29 February, when registration opens.
Selected papers will be published after the conference.
