Literary translation in the programme is taught as part of a range of elective (compulsory choice) courses covering a variety of specialized translation fields. The required theoretical foundations and the general practical aspects of the translation profession are introduced in compulsory courses (e.g. Theory of Translation, Contrastive Linguistics, Text Processing, Revising and Editing for Translators, Genre, Style and Translation, The Translation Profession).
The literary translation courses focus on the practical aspects of translating literary texts from English or French into Bulgarian and are offered in two parts each, in semester I and semester II. The students who enrol in them may do part of their compulsory internship at Bulgarian publishing houses specializing in literary translation, and write their final MA Thesis on a topic related to literary translation.
