PETRA-E Network launches new version of Literary Translation Competences Framework

The PETRA-E Network for literary translation has published an updated version of its groundbreaking literary translation competences framework:

A first edition of the Framework of Reference for the Education and Training of Literary Translators was published in 2016 and has been used since then by educators to design their curricula and by students and literary translators to identify competences they can develop.

The revised 2024 Edition of the Framework responds to some of the main changes in the profession over recent years, especially the increasing use of generative AI and other digital tools.  The 2024 Edition also reflects the fact that in a competitive professional field, translators now need to have a greater knowledge of the ethical and legal aspects of translation and of the publishing world and the publishing process.

Thanks to the work of a team of translators from PETRA-E Network member institutions, the new version is available in 13 different languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak and Spanish.

Founded in 2016, the PETRA-E Network brings together over 30 institutions in Europe and beyond that are dedicated to teaching and training literary translation under a common framework of professional competences, levels and skills.
